Gods Grave

Origins

Gods Grave is currently early in the design process, but I think it's one of the more ambitious projects that I've taken on. Gods Grave aims to capture a mythology that parallels the mythology of the American west in all it's complexity. Including the way that mythology is both overwritten by a colonial culture, as well as being ground down by the passage of time.

My maternal family owns a large plot of land outside of Casper, Wyoming. When my family would go to visit them when I was young we'd often spend some part of the drive exploring various national monuments and parks, Yellowstone, Bighorn Medicine Wheel, Fort Laramie, Wall Drug. Of course Devils Tower is an entirely different animal. A monolith in the middle of nowhere. It was the first time I'd experinced awe, and I'm not the only one. Long before my family ever settled nearby, indigenous people from all over area have treated the tower as a scared site. The tower, Bear's Tipi, Na Kovehe, as many myths surround the tower as people who've seen it. But the real world story of how colonizers stole the land, renamed a sacred site, is a part of the tower's history that shouldn't be ignored.

Design Decisions

Gods Grave is two games. Gods Grave is the video game that we will play, as well as an in universe card game themed around the many myths surrounding the in universe analogue to Devils Tower, Gods Grave. Inspired by games like Slay the Spire and Inscryption. Many design decisions have yet to be made. Updates will be posted here.
